Free Dinner, Jameson and Mummies

Friday 1.24.2014:

St. Michan's Church
I slept in a little bit before getting up and making myself some buttered noodles. After my incredibly creative lunch, Catie and I got ready for a day trip planned and paid for by the business school. We went to the first place which was St Michan's Church. There we had the opportunity to go under the church and see the crypts. In the crypts there were 300, 400, and 800 year old mummies. It was fascinating to see them but it was also a little creepy. After this we went to the Jameson Distillery Museum. When we got there I got an Irish Coffee. Which was amazingly delicious! Shawn, Angie and I kept raving about it! We then got to see the process behind making Jameson.

Fun Fact: Jameson is triple distilled. Which means it is distilled three separate times. This is what causes Jameson to be so smooth when you drink it.

Whiskey Tasting

In the middle of the tour there was an opportunity to volunteer to do a whiskey tasting. Being Bob Heck's daughter I quickly raised my hand because being Deb Heck's daughter I had read in one of my book about Ireland that this is a must volunteer moment.  At the end of the tour 16 of us had the opportunity to taste a Scottish Whiskey, an American Whiskey and Jameson. We got to see the differences between the three of them. I personally liked Jameson the best with Jack Daniels as a close second. After the tasting everyone in the tour enjoyed either a ginger Whiskey or a straight shot of Jameson. As I sipped at my drink I talked with some of the Wisconsin girls and got to know them better. After this tour, everyone migrated to dinner. This dinner is most likely the nicest meal I will eat all semester. I had Caprese Salad with Heirloom tomatoes, roasted pork belly with mashed potatoes and spinach, and then raspberry cheesecake with tequila and lime ice cream. It was incredible! It was also a great dinner because I sat with some of the Wisconsin and Illinois boys, it's always funny to watch all of them interact. It made me miss my brother and all the joking we do with each other. After dinner everyone parted ways and headed home to settle into food coma. Late late that night some of us planned a spontaneous trip to County Cork the next day. We went to bed in order to get a little sleep before the day trip the next day.

Cheers,
Jenny
